The Tata Aria, to be launched in the second quarter of 2010, blends the functionality and comfort of a mid-range MPV with the all terrain assurance and premiumness of an SUV. Its 2.2 Litre Direct Injection Common Rail (DICOR) diesel engine, delivering 140 PS power and 320 Nm torque, is mated, in the 4×4 option, with an all-wheel drive with torque on demand, which senses and distributes torque to the wheels in accordance with the terrain.

General Motors took the wraps off the Beat which it intends to sell in more than 150 countries worldwide including Europe, parts of Asia and North America.

Karl Slym, head of GM India, said that the Beat, priced at Rs3,34,000 ($7,000) in its basic form, would help increase Indian sales by 30% this year to 100,000 units, but he admitted that the competition was getting tough.

“There is a competitive market in India,” he said adding: “There are more and more players coming in with different capabilities.

TOYOTA ETIOS!

The Etios will probably be launched later this year, the company said, featuring suspension designed for bad roads and a price—so far undisclosed—that will attract middle class families and professionals.

“It’s not a copy of a Japanese or European model,” said Kazuo Okamoto, vice chairman of Toyota, at the presentation.

“Etios is newly developed for customers in India,” Okamoto said.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) will manufacture about 70,000 units of the Etios per annum, to begin with, and will aim for a 10% market share in the Indian small cars segment by end-2010. Up to 70% of the India-spec Etios’ components will be locally sourced, which will allow Toyota to price the car competitively. While official prices have not been announced, the Etios is expected to cost Rs 4.50-5.50 lakh.

NEW DELHI — The Maruti Suzuki R3, unveiled here at the 2010 New Delhi Auto Show, provides Indian customers with a sneak preview of the company's future MPV, which will be positioned in size and price below the Toyota Innova.

The R3 is a six-passenger compact van with three rows of seats and rear-hinged rear doors. It is built on a stretched version of the Suzuki SX4 platform. The Maruti Suzuki R3 will offer Indian customers a choice of four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines, as well as a compressed natural gas option.

Production is said to be at least two years away.

DELHI AUTO SHOW!

All major automakers around the world are now focusing on the upcoming Delhi Auto Show where they find opportunity to display their new models as well as attract them. This time the Delhi auto is going to be very important for the small car segment as about 7 small cars will be shown in this autoshow. The Delhi Auto show will be organized from 5th to 11th of January next year.

Nissan is showcasing its Micra. TheNissan Micra is a small hatchback model which is first of its kind in India by Nisaan. It is expected that this new model will be launched in the price range of Rs 4 lakh and above. It will be launched in the 1.2 L petrol and 1.5 L diesel engine.

On the same track the Maruti Suzuki India is going to unveil some of its recently launched models. Maruti recently launched some small car model with K- series engines like Maruti Ritz and Maruti A-Star. The all New Maruti Kizashi model is also expected to showcased in this auto show.

On the other hand the Ford Motors is expected to showcase its small car model Ford Figo which was unveiled last month in India. Company hasn't disclosed details of this model but it is expected that the model will be launched in both diesel and petrol engines which are 1.2L petrol and 1.4L .
